Laptop or Desktop?

I'm considering getting my son a computer for Christmas but I'm really not sure which way to go. Personally I LOVE my laptop, even if I don't move around it's nice to know I have the option, but for him I'm not sure I want him moving it all over the place. Not only is he clumsy, I'd like to be able to keep an eye on him when he's using it.

Since laptops have taken over I wonder if people still prefer desktop computers. I know one of my friends would like to trade her laptop in if she could. her laptop has been giving her trouble and I think it's for the same reason as me. We uses ours so frequently that there are many times turning it off is really a pain and waste of time but laptop fans can't really handle the heavy useage. I'd love to know what others think if anyone wants to weigh in.
